If it's not evident from the current patch notes, a lot has been changed concerning profile images. A lot of general improvements have been made, including a higher max resolution of 1024x1024 pixels, images no longer being saved and thus compressed as .GIF, and more. If you already have a pre-existing profile picture, I'd suggest reuploading it so you can get the most out of the new quality!
